We are pleased to announce the national Job Planning Conference which this year will take place virtually. This conference focuses on improving job planning and developing your skills in leading and negotiating job plan reviews. The event will reflect on the September 2024 NHS England update to medical consultant job planning and implementing the high impact interventions and recommendations. The aim of the conference is in line with NHS England, to share good practice in job planning to make care safer and improve patient experience, and to maximise the value of patients’ and clinicians’ time and the productivity of services by tacking waste and addressing poor practices. The conference aims to bring together those leading and improving the effectiveness of Job planning to understand current issues and the national context, and to debate and discuss key issues and areas they are facing in practice. The CPD certified conference focuses on delivering successful job planning and maximising the benefits for patients, for doctors and for the service, and ensuring compliance with best practice guidance.
Through a series of presentations and extended interactive sessions, and small breakout groups this one day conference will provide delegates with the opportunity improve their skills in leading job plan reviews, ensuring the job plan improves personal development goals, individual and service objectives. Extended sessions will focus on clinical leadership in job planning, strategic job planning, service level job planning, negotiating job plans, managing difficult issues, and will include advice on legal and HR issues.
“Good job planning helps you deliver services more effectively for patients. It can increase productivity and efficiency gains with an alignment of the demands of the service with the clinical capacity to deliver it. Job planning supports staff and service development, applies a standardised, consistent, transparent and fair approach, and enables consultants to consider how to innovate and drive change within services.”
NHS England September 2024

We need to improve the job planning process to respond to changes in service delivery, support the work life balance of colleagues, standardise processes across organisations, and understand medical capacity to inform service planning for 2025/26.”
