NHS 111 to now provide 24/7 mental health crisis support

For the first time, the NHS 111 helpline is providing 24/7 mental health crisis support. Callers in urgent need can now access professional advice, face-to-face support, and alternatives to hospital visits. NHS England aims to improve mental health care, backed by a £2.3 billion investment and efforts to recruit 8,500 more mental health professionals.

Previously, local health systems operated separate phone lines, which were expedited during the pandemic and handled approximately 200,000 calls per month.

Additionally, NHS Talking Therapy Services are available for those struggling with other mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, OCD, and PTSD.

"This initiative ensures that anyone experiencing a mental health crisis can get the support they need when they need it most."

Amanda Pritchard, NHS Chief Executive
