This Hospital at Night Summit focuses on out of hours care in hospitals, delivering high quality safe care at night, and supporting the wellbeing of those working at night. Through national updates, networking opportunities and case studies this conference provides a practical guide to delivering a high-quality hospital at night service and transforming out of hours services and roles to improve patient safety. The 2024 conference will focus on developing an effective Hospital at Night service and focus on the practicalities of supporting staff at night, improving wellbeing, and fighting fatigue.
“For acute services to be judged safe, they have to be safe 24/7”
NHS England
“Sleep-deprived staff have more attentional failures and make more clinical errors. When you are tired you become less able to judge your own performance. You may not even realize you are making mistakes. Exhaustion erases recent learning and has been shown to decrease the ability of junior doctors to make correct diagnoses.”
Tyneside Integrated Musculoskeletal Service
“We want to change attitudes across the NHS to ensure everyone understands the risks of fatigue and how to mitigate against them. We hope that by taking responsibility collectively for making changes to working practice, we can improve working conditions for all staff which will in turn benefit patient care.”
Dr Kathleen Ferguson, Association of Anaesthetists, President and Consultant Anaesthetist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary
