Virtual Reality & Simulation in Mental Health

Wed, 29 Jan 2025

Virtual, Online

Virtual Reality (VR) is transforming mental health by providing immersive experiences that support therapeutic interventions, patient engagement, and mental health training. Paired with simulation, VR is becoming an essential tool for helping mental health professionals practice therapeutic techniques as well as allowing patients to experience new methods of therapy in a safe and controlled environment.

The Virtual Reality and Simulation Summit focuses on the practical application of these technologies in mental health care. Rather than exploring theoretical concepts, the summit features real-world case studies that demonstrate how VR and simulation are actively enhancing mental health practices today. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the practical benefits of VR for mental health professionals and patients alike.

“Every Interventional Radiology procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic meaning the patient is awake. Using the (VR) headset helps block pain receptors and helps them to take their mind off of what is happening. You can see that it works because the machines show their vital signs stabilise during the procedure while wearing the headset.”

Andrea Hattabi, Senior Sister for Interventional Radiology, Medway NHS Foundation Trust, March 2024

“VR experiences can help healthcare professionals develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with sight loss. By immersing themselves in virtual environments that simulate visual impairments, trainees can gain empathy, sensitivity and awareness, which are essential qualities for delivering patient-centred care.”
