Follow the conference on X #NMPpaeds

This important national conference provides an essential update for nurse/non medical prescribers in paediatrics and child health in primary and community care. Elevate your practice, expand your knowledge, and enhance your impact on the well-being of our youngest patients.

Through national updates and practical case studies delegates will hear how to develop and maintain prescribing competence. The conference will look at current issues and challenges for non medical prescribers in paediatrics and child health. The conference will include an extended session focusing on maintaining and demonstrating prescribing competence using the National Framework for Prescribing, developing confidence in prescribing practice and maintaining safety. Practical interactive sessions will focus on non medical prescribing for pain, improving primary care prescribing safety, and include case studies in common prescribing areas. The conference will close with a session focusing complex prescribing including mental health, end of life care and managing co-morbidities including obesity, and evaluating your prescribing practice.

"Prescribing for children and young people highlights many complex issues that may not be relevant in other fields of non-medical prescribing. Ongoing changes to legislation pose challenges, requiring paediatric non-medical prescribers to be vigilant in their daily prescribing practice…There should be a focus on the education of future paediatric NMPs and regular CPD for qualified paediatric NMPs…Paediatric prescribing is challenging, and some aspects have been considered here that are not relevant to generic prescribers, which need to be considered closely to provide safe and efficient prescribing practice. "

Prof Kate Davies Associate Professor, Associate Professor in Non Medical Prescribing and Paediatric Endocrinology, Deputy Course Director in Non Medical Prescribing, London South Bank University The Journal of Prescribing Practice December 2023

“Guidelines for non medical prescribing are ever changing, and those of us working within child health need to maintain an awareness of not just generic guidelines, but those that are also relevant to neonates, children and young people... It is imperative that a paediatric non medical prescriber is aware of their scope of practice”
