Patient Safety, Audit, Clinical Governance, and Clinical Audit - CQG Series

Joint Virtual Masterclass HCUK & CQG

Module 9 CQG

“We must reformulate our governance of Trusts, because governance is the architecture of accountability, and that accountability, Covid has forced us to recognise, is to our populations and not just to our regulators. So, it is clear that this programme is timely indeed. I commend this course to non executives, executives, governors, clinicians and all those interested in the improving the governance of our health and social care systems and partnerships.”

David Rogers, Chairman, North Staffordshire Combined Health NHS Trust

The overall objective of this masterclass is to build good governance commitment, capacity, and resilience in the face of severe resource constraints and complex staff, patient, political and regulatory expectations. The programme is interactive, developmental, based on best practice and focused on achievable improvement of practice, behaviours and outcomes. The course includes online access to the relevant CQG e-learning module for 12 months and a discount code to purchase additional modules.

This masterclass is one of a series that will help enhance your understanding and application of governance in healthcare, in this module, we use safety as an example of how to develop a just and transparent culture. How, achieving a culture of safety, can in turn deliver a high-quality, safe and cost-effective service. To do this boards must ensure strategy translates into operational engagement and delivery to achieve the desired benefits, with feedback of progress to management and assurance to the board through the Assurance Framework.

We also explore the roles of specialist audit and governance themes. It is important that all systems for untoward incidents, near misses, variable performance and complaints are integrated into a single easy to use process for staff, leaders and stakeholders.

At the completion of this module, the participant will be able to:

  • Understand the board’s role in developing the right culture particularly in relation to patient and staff safety

  • Explain the importance of integrated governance, performance and audit

  • Recognise the need to align systems for capturing untoward incidents, near misses, variable performance and complaints to inform learning and improvement

  • Apply the learning to the participant’s own organisation using the CQG Maturity Matrix
