Labour's Plan for a Future-Proof NHS

The Labour Party has outlined a comprehensive plan to reform and modernise the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK, focusing on several key areas to address current challenges and future needs.

Below are the main points from their proposal:

  • Cutting NHS Waiting Times by increaseing the number of appointments by 40,000 weekly.
  • Doubling the number of cancer scanners.
  • Implementing a new Dentistry Rescue Plan.
  • Recruitinng 8,500 additional mental health staff.
  • Reintroducing the family doctor model.

Mental Health

The government aims to address the mental health epidemic, especially among children and young people, aiming to raise the healthiest generation of children by integrating mental health with physical health. 

  • Bringing down waiting times and intervene earlier.
  • Recruiting 8,500 new staff to treat children and adults.
  • Young Futures hubs to provide open access to mental health services for children and young people.

Social Care 

Committed to undertaking a programme of reform to create a National Care Service, Labour is committed to:

  • Developing National Care Service with national standards and local delivery.
  • Establishing Fair Pay Agreements in adult social care.
  • Improving intergration between health and social care services.

Empowering Patients 

  •  Enhance the NHS app to give patients control over their health information and appointments.
  • Improve patient safety and dignity, particularly in maternity care and mental health treatment.

The plan outlined in the manifesto for the NHS is to restore and enhance the service by focusing on reducing waiting times, modernising infrastructure, emphasising preventative care, integrating mental health, and addressing health inequalities. Read the whole manifesto here
