Virtual Reality Technology Used to Save a Life in Groundbreaking Surgery

The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with training platform Goggleminds, is using virtual reality (VR) to train healthcare staff and students to spot early signs of sepsis, a life-threatening condition.

Through immersive headsets, participants practise diagnosing and treating sepsis in realistic scenarios. The technology enables efficient training outside traditional hospital settings, helping clinicians better prepare for high-pressure situations.

"Training which sticks in the mind, saves lives," said Dr Ron Daniels, founder of the UK Sepsis Trust. Sepsis claims 48,000 lives annually in the UK, many of which could be prevented with early detection.
