Update on the implementation of the Liberty Protection Safeguards

The Department of Health and Social Care announced on 5th April 2023 that the implementation of the Liberty Protection Safeguards will be delayed until at least the next general election (anticipated to be in Autumn 2024).

The delay is said to enable the government to focus on the critical priorities in adult social care, set out in the latest update Next steps to put People at the Heart of Care

"By 2025, we will have achieved real change for adult social care. We will have shifted the dial on recognition and support for the skills of care workers, driven digitalisation and innovation in social care provision, and changed how social care is planned for and commissioned."
