Earlier Mental Health Support Access: Funding for Mental Health Support Hubs Announced

The Department of Health and Social Care announced on the 25th October 2023 a nearly £5 million funding for early support hubs nationwide to deliver mental health support for children and young people.

The funding is aimed to provide earlier, open-access mental health intervention at 10 existing hubs in community locations, allowing these to expand their services locally and employ new staff.

With now over a million referrals to children and young people’s mental health services every year, we know that services are struggling to keep up with demand. Early intervention services are desperately needed across the country and will make a huge difference to many young people who are struggling with their mental health.

Fund the Hubs campaign group (The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, Black Thrive Global, Centre for Mental Health, The Children’s Society, Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition, Mind, Youth Access, and YoungMinds)

Additionally, an extra £2.3 billion funding a year by March 2024 is said to be used to expand and transfor services, allowing an extra 2 million people to get mental health support, including an extra 345,000 children and young people who will be able to receive NHS funded mental health support.
