Following consultation, a new fundamental standard on visiting and accompaniment has been published by the CQC as part of their regulatory assessment and enforcement powers. This new standard aims to ensure that people who use these services are able to:
receive visits from people that they want to see
make social visits outside of care homes
be accompanied on appointments that do not require an overnight stay
“Everyone should work on the assumption that in-person visiting and accompaniment to appointments are possible. Providers must put in place any measures or precautions necessary and proportionate to ensure that visiting and accompaniment can continue to happen safely. These must be the least restrictive options and must be decided with the person using the service, and their family, friends or advocates where appropriate.”

Understand what might constitute an exceptional circumstance that will limit visiting arrangements
Take into account the wishes of people using your service, including those who lack capacity
Understand how CQC will inspect this new fundamental standard and the enforcement action that will be taken upon identification of a breach
Make the appropriate arrangements surrounding accompaniment to appointments that do not require an overnight stay
Support service users to make social visits outside of the home, and understand where this might not be possible
Investigate and manage complaints from family, friends and people who use your services
Understand how to best facilitate visitation in end-of-life care and what your obligations are
Supports CPD professional development and acts as revalidation evidence. This course provides 5 Hrs training for CPD subject to peer group approval for revalidation purposes
