Cancer Survivorship Summit: Improving Outcomes for People Living with and Beyond Cancer

This Conference is now Closed

Follow the conference on X #cancersurvivorship

This National Virtual Conference takes a practical approach to improving practice and outcomes for those living with and beyond cancer, moving from surviving to thriving. Through national updates and practical case studies the conference aims to support you to deliver on the above priorities outlined by NHS England and develop effective personalised support and services. The conference will also explore how we meet the unmet needs of people living with and beyond cancer, accelerating the roll-out of stratified follow up pathways and the commissioning of holistic packages of support, and ensuring every person with cancer will have access to relevant elements of a personalised care approach. The conference will cover content from the NHS England Cancer Programme progress update including ‘Priority 2: improving treatment and personalised care’.

“Cancer survival in England is at an all-time high due to the speed and scale of advances in diagnosis and treatment across the NHS. As we live longer, more of us will develop cancer ourselves, or will have family or friends who are affected by cancer. We want more people to be cured of their cancer or supported to find a way of living their life well with it.”

Dame Cally Palmer, National Cancer Director, NHS England, May 2024

“Cancer survival rates in the UK are as much as 25 years behind other European countries. Our analysis suggests if the UK’s survival rates matched the best in Europe, thousands more people who are diagnosed each year would survive their cancer for at least five years. On top of this, waiting times across the UK were among the worst on record in 2023, leaving patients struggling physically, emotionally, and financially.”

Macmillan Cancer Support, June 2024

“For those finishing cancer treatment, the transition towards living with and beyond cancer can be challenging. Patients may feel isolated, and without clear support. This may include treatments having finished and appointments coming to an end in secondary care.”
